Louise Baker Brown was born on October 3, 1952 to Walls and Lura Baker in Coffeeville, Mississippi. She is the fourth of seven siblings. In 1970 she graduated from Central High School as the Valedictorian of her class. She is a graduate of Northwest Junior College, Senatobia, Mississippi with an Associate Degree, and matriculated one year at the University of Mississippi before transferring to Spelman College, Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated in1974 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Upon completing her degree at Spelman College, Dr. Brown worked for two years with the Atlanta Police Department and served one year as a police officer. In 1978, she completed her Master of Education from Columbus State University, Columbus, GA, and her Specialist of Education in 1994 from West Georgia University, Carrollton, GA.  In 2000, she completed her Educational Leadership Certification from the State University of West Georgia. She completed the Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in November, 2006.

     Dr.   Brown taught high school social studies for 21 years in Talbotton County and Dekalb County School System in Georgia. She was recognized by her colleagues as the Talbot County Teacher of the Year in 1980 and DeKalb County Teacher of the Year in 1990. Since 1998, she has worked as an Instructional Coordinator with DeKalb County School System where she supports 14 middle and high schools. After 30 years as an educator, Dr. Brown retired in May 2007.

     Since July 1972, she has been married to Bishop Thomas Louis Brown. They are the proud parents of two children; Charisa Nicole-Jefferson, a Paine College graduate, who is an educator in Concord, NC, and Thomas, Jr. who graduated in December 2007 from the University of Georgia, and is on injured reserve as running back for the Atlanta Falcons.  She is the proud grandmother of Ariel Moriah Jefferson and Orlando Thomas Brown.

     Dr. Brown has, in concert with Bishop Brown, conducted marriage retreat workshops for the Fourth Episcopal District; the First Episcopal District (Bishop William H.  Graves); Third Episcopal District (Bishop Paul A.G. Stewart); and the Eighth Episcopal District (Retired Senior Bishop-Marshall Gilmore). She is a member of the Georgia Association of Educators, and the First Lady of the 4th Episcopal District.
